What is Natural Gas? Natural Gas is mainly methane — CH4 with a small percentage of other hydrocarbons. The ratio of carbon to hydrogen is least in methane and hence it bums almost completely making it the cleanest fuel. It is extracted from the oil / gas wells and transported through a network of pipelines across the country. What is PNG? PNG implies Piped Natural Gas i.e. natural gas which is supplied through pipes to your homes and establishments. Where is PNG stored? PNG is not stored at one place but is continuously supplied through the Hazira — Bijapur — Jagdishpur (HBJ) pipeline of GAIL. Is the supply of PNG regular? The supply is un-interrupted. The pipeline distribution network is based on an on-line supply system that consists of safety valves and regulators that control and monitor the gas supply and pressure, and assist in identifying system leaks. Thus an un-interrupted supply at a constant pressure is assured. What changes are required for conversion of an LPG appliance to be PNG friendly? The supply is un-interrupted. The pipeline distribution network is based on an on-line supply system that consists of safety valves and regulators that control and monitor the gas supply and pressure, and assist in identifying system leaks. Thus an un-interrupted supply at a constant pressure is assured. What happens of the LPG cylinders after the cooking appliance gets converted? LPG Connection for Piped-NaturaI-Gas Consumers. Piped-Natural-Gas (PNG) consumers are now allowed by Govt. of India to keep one LPG connection in their household for which supply would be at non-subsidised rate. In view of the same, PNG consumers whose LPG connections have been blocked can now get their LPG connections unblocked by opting for cylinder supply at non-subsidised rate. Those who are PNG consumers but your connection is not blocked, must also convert their connection for receiving supplies at non-subsidised rate as per the Government's policy. What is a domestic PNG connection? A domestic PNG connection includes conversion of one LPG appliance (extra cost for more than two burners) to PNG, laying of associated galvanized iron (GI) pipeline network, along with necessary fittings, pressure regulator and a meter. What is the cost of getting a PNG connection? Cost of PNG connection is dependent on the type of house or establishment and installation charges as applicable at the time of registration. Applicable refundable interest-free security deposit is to be deposited for a PNG connection. What is the system of billing? Billing is based on the meter readings taken by the authorized GGL staff once in two months for the domestic consumers. The bills are delivered at the customer's residence. The payment of the bills can be made by using any of the payment modes as acceptable by GGL. How are customer queries and complaints attended to? We have 24 hour helpline service for attending your queries I complaints. Our network of control rooms are manned 24 hours by Engineers and trained technicians to address any queries / complaints. How PNG is safer than LPG? The combustible mixture of natural gas and air does not ignite if the mixture is leaner than 5% and richer than 15% of Natural gas is lighter than air. Therefore, in case of a leak, it rises up and disperses into air given adequate ventilation is available. But LPG being heavier settles at the bottom near the floor surface. PNG is safer since installation of PNG inside your premises contains only a limited quantity of natural gas at low pressure i.e. 21 milli bar (mbar). On leakage, LPG expands 250 times, which is not the case with PNC. PNG Supply can be switched off through appliance valve (inside the kitchen) and isolation valve (outside kitchen premises), which cuts off the gas supply.
